Bespoke Eyelash Extensions

At Londin Lash, we get inspiration from around the world. Some of the best lash artists come from Europe. In fact, it was Russian lash artists that created the “Russian Volume Lash”.

The other day, I was creeping on one of my British inspirations, Frankie Widdows. She was using the term “bespoke”.

Hmmn – I know a “WC” means washroom. “Gobsmacked” means amazed. “Fanny”? Well, you can Google that one. Just, don’t refer to a fanny pack when visiting the UK.

What does “bespoke” mean?

be-spoke /bəˈspōk/ 1.past of bespeak. adjective BRITISH
1.(of goods, especially clothing) made to order. For example, "a bespoke suit".

Bespoke lashes are customized lashes.

As Londin Lash artists, we have over 130 different lash extensions in various thicknesses, lengths, and curls to choose from. To prevent lash damage, we match the lash extensions to your natural lash strength. Next, we look at the shape of your eye as well as how it is positioned relative to your eyebrows and other facial features. We’ve got all sorts of tricks to make a small eye look larger, reduce the look of a hooded lid, improve a droopy eye, and more. Sometimes, we’ll even use different lashes from eye to eye to make your eyes look balanced. Book an appointment or call Londin Lash. We’d love to bespoke your lashes.

Will Eyelash Extensions Damage My Lashes?

Before and After Russian Volume Lash

Before and After Russian Volume Lash
Multiple light weight eyelash extensions formed into a fan shape and applied to a single natural lash.

Interview with Brianna founder of Londin Lash Studio

Can eyelash extensions damage your lashes?

BRIE: Eyelash extensions will not damage your natural lashes.  But, they need to be properly applied by a trained lash artist.  But, if the person applying your lashes does not use the correct lash weight, if she uses too much glue, or if she doesn’t isolate the natural lashes correctly, permanent damage can happen.

What does Londin Lash Studio do to prevent lash damage?

BRIE: Lash damage comes from three main sources: applying a single extension or volume fan that is too heavy for your natural lash, using too much glue, or gluing your natural lashes to each other. We call those “stickies”.

At Londin, we are constantly assessing the health of your natural lashes. We look at your natural lashes. Is your natural lash thick or thin?  We can choose from six different lash diameters to safely extend your natural lash. How long is your natural lash?  If you have naturally short lashes, it is not safe to extend with extremely long extensions. Are there gaps in the lash line? We watch your lash line over multiple appointments and keep detailed client notes that track your lash health.

How can I tell if my lashes are too heavy?

BRIE: You should never feel your lash extensions. Think of your lashes like the branches on a tree. If you put too much weight on the branch, it will break.  It’s the same with lashes.

If your lashes are twisting or feel like they are pulling they may be too heavy for your natural lash. Too much glue can also make your lashes feel heavy. Our lash stylists can choose from lash extensions weighing 0.0003 gm to 0.0030 gm. We can truly customize a lash design to safely give you lash extensions.

How can I tell if my lashes aren’t applied properly?

BRIE: Remember that you should never feel your lash extensions. At Londin, our lash stylists are trained to isolate each natural lash before attaching either a single extension or volume fan.

Our eyelashes grow at different rates. At anytime, you’ll have baby lashes that are actively growing, teenage lashes that are filling out, and mature lashes that are getting ready to shed.  If two natural lashes are stuck together, the one that is actively growing can actually tug out its neighbour.  The lashes will feel uncomfortable.

Extensions need to be placed the correct distance from the lid.  Lash adhesive or extensions should never touch your eyelid. We’re trained to apply the lash extension 1-2 mm away from the eyelid. If an extension touches the lid, it can be incredibly uncomfortable. Your lid may even get puffy and swell up. It’s not an allergic reaction, but rather poor technique.

How can I choose a lash stylist?

BRIE: Wow, this could be a separate topic!  Check their work on Facebook and Instagram.  Check out their lash studio space.  Are you confident in the cleanliness and attention to sanitation? Lastly, ask lots of questions! A professional lash stylist will always be more than happy to answer your questions!

How to Care for Lash Extensions

Clean lashes last longer! It just takes following a few simple steps to help keep your lashes looking their best!

Classic Dramatic Lashes

Classic Dramatic Lashes

First 24 hours
Do not get your lashes soaking wet.
Avoid hot and sweaty situation like hot yoga, saunas, hot tubs, and swimming pools.
Cleanse Every Evening
Your extensions need a gentle washing every evening. This will remove any natural skin oils as well as dust that has accumulated during the day.  We recommend using a foaming cleanser like Lash Collection’s Eyelash & Brow Cleanser.  The cleanser is available in a 3ml sachet or 50ml bottle. Add 3ml to a 60ml foaming bottle. Fill the bottle with either distilled or cooled boiled water.  Shake the bottle to mix.
Squirt a walnut sized portion of foam into the palm of your hand. Load a small fan brush with foam. Cleanse your lash line brushing in the direction of the lashes.  Don’t scrub from side to side.  Rinse and then pat dry. You can also use a hair dryer set on low and cool to dry your lashes. It makes them fluffy.:)
Your lashes will love a regular light brushing with a spoolie.
Avoid Oil Based Products
Limit the use of gel and liquid eyeliners which will weaken the bond between the extension and your natural lash.
Avoid any make up around the lash line. Oil based products will weaken the glue.  If you are unsure about a product, ask your lash stylist.
Avoid Mascara
Never use mascara on volume lashes. Mascara will close the volume fans.
We don’t recommend using mascara on classic eyelash extensions.
If you want to use mascara on your lower lashes, make sure that the mascara is extension safe.
Be Kind to your Lashes
Don’t rub or tug your extensions.
Be gentle when you cleanse the eye area.
Sleep on your back or side keeping your lashes off the pillow. Splurge on a silk pillow case. Great for your hair, great for your skin, and great for your lashes!
Book Your Fill
Get your classic lashes filled every 3 weeks. Volume lashes need to be filled every 3-4 weeks. Popular appointment times such as evenings can fill several weeks ahead.

We want you to be delighted with your lashes! Please call or text (306)244-3070 if you have any questions or concerns!

The First 24 Hours

WaterFight

The first twenty-four hours are critical in keeping your lashes full and beautiful as long as possible.
Eyelash extension glue cures rather than dries. It takes about twenty-four hours for the bonds to be strong and flexible. If there is too much moisture, “shock-curing” happens. The bonds are less flexible. In extreme cases, the glue may even appear grey.
That’s why Londin Lash has the 24-hour No Water Rule.

Lash Hook Up or Long Term Commitment?

winkRelationships come in all sizes, shapes, and colours.
Some are just a summer fling. Neither party is ready to settle down. Both just want a "no strings attached" summer. You’ll get no judgment from Londin.

Sometimes, a girl just wants lashes for the short term. It might be for a mascara free summer or a special event like a wedding or graduation. We get it… We’ve been there.

But, just like that summer boyfriend, there are smart ways to break up and not so smart. If you need a lash break, never remove your lashes yourself. You can damage your natural lashes. Come on into Londin. All our lash removals are complimentary for our clients. We will safely remove any extensions and leave you with a healthy lash line. No judgment.

Just a warning… Sometimes you fall in love with your lashes and can’t bear to break up. It’s like that summer boyfriend that morphs into the winter boyfriend and then the next summer boyfriend. All of a sudden, you are driving three kids in a mini van to soccer practice.

But, your lashes will look amazing!

Welcome to Londin Lash

The eyes are the window of the soul… English Proverb

My obsession with eyes started young… Grade three to be exact.

I “borrowed” my mom’s mascara, hid it in my backpack and then got on the school bus. When I got to school, I bee lined for the girl’s washroom and applied a subtle coat of mascara. There was an art to this. The look had to natural enough to avoid detection by my teachers and parents, but dramatic enough to make those baby blue’s pop. Continue reading
